A rich, nutty and mellow roasted green tea, that is naturally low in caffeine due to the final roasting process. Our Houjicha uses only the finest leaves from the first harvest. The plants are grown in full sunlight, ensuring that each cup is cull of catechin's. The leaves are prepared in the same way as Sencha, with the leaves being steamed, dried and crumbled. Houjicha then goes through a final stage of roasting, which lowers the caffiene content and brings out the wonderful nutty flavour.
Houjicha is a great accompniement to most foods, and also makes a fantastic iced tea.
Traditional Method: Measure 1 heaped tablespoon per cup (100ml) and brew in freshly boiled water for 30 seconds or to taste. Can be brewed 3-4 timesWestern Method: Measure 3g per cup (300ml) and brew in frershly boiled water for 3 minutes. Can be brewed 3-4 times.
